Israel is approaching 60yrs if it wasnt for those brave young men (me included maybe not so brave) that give the state not only 3 yrs of their life , risking their lives, away from their famalies protecting israel, there wouldnt be a state.
There is no reason what so ever why young men that wish to study the Torah can study part full time after they have completed their national service. Special units can be set up to cater to ther needs. The shas party milks the state dry for every last sheckel it can get, threatens to bring the goverment (regardless of who is in power) everytime they dont get their way.
And now this very week they are building more shas neighborhoods in east jerusalem at not only the exspense of the Israeli tax payers but also violating agreements reached in the peace process.
If ever there was a just cause to seperate politics and religion this is it.
