In times of crisis like these when there is danger to all of us we form a semblance of unity. However this unity is ad hoc, because there is a fundimental rupture between those that believe in secularism and westernism and those that believe in G-d and His Torah. Zionism tried to skirt this problem by trying to relegate religion into being a `private matter`. For religious Jews Religion is a `raison d`etre` and a `weltanschauung`. That is why unity with secularists can only be ad hoc. I admit the incident with minister Tamir as well as other ultra-nationalist statements was poor PR, but apparently Ms Tamir was aloso looking for a headline. |
