| Boim outdoes himself: "Housing Minister Ze`ev Boim has accused the head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog of acting as an agent for Iran and of allowing the Islamic Republic to proceed with its uranium enrichment without international intervention." The job of the IAEA is to oversee the civilian application of uranium enrichment - which is allowed (indeed, encouraged) under the terms of the NPT. So it needs to detect and flag to the UN SC any evidence of non-compliance by a signatory. It is not the job of the IAEA to "cook the books" in order to justify a decision by the UNSC that Iran must stop its uranium enrichment. Tailoring intel to fit the political agenda? No doubt infuriating to a bullet-head like Boim, but the IAEA is doing everyone a favour by refusing. Just ask Bush what that sort of "tailoring" can get you into... |
