| Even in an Haaretz Editorial one can find intentional misuse of the language! "From an Israeli viewpoint, the victims of the massacre are akin to any other eight fatalities". and later ... "like that which accompanied Baruch Goldstein`s horrific crime at the Tomb of the Patriarchs 14 years ago." Two comments: (1) 8 people were killed in the attack on the religious school in Jerusalem. Haaretz calls this a "massacre". (2) Dr. Baruch Goldstein killed 30 people at the Tomb of the Patriarchs, but Haaretz refers to that as a "horrific crime" and DOES NOT bother to mention the fact that 30 people were killed! This manipulation of the language may seem innocent & unintentional. But if killing 8 people constitutes a massacre, why not refer to the events at the Tomb of the Patriarchs also as a massacre??? |
