You hit the nail on the head with your comment "the Jews were to be given all of what was called Palestine, all the way up to the border of Iraq, despite the fact that, around World War I, there was an Arab majority here."
The colonial concept of "the Great Powers" "giving" land to peoples was never valid. It was especially invalid in the case of the Middle East, where peoples of many different ethnic identities live, make their livelihoods and own property (Balfour, with his concepts of "black (subjugated), white (governing) and grey (cilvilizable)" people, was a racist that would be laughed at today).
"Israel" is based on this bigoted colonial legacy, and hence has never had the slightest legitamacy. It should be relegated to the trash heap, just as the British Empire, South African Bantustans, French Algeria and the rest of the colonial world was. In its place, a modern democratic state that represents its entire population could flourish. Long live Palestine! |
