Dear Danny,
It is true, there are no IDF soldiers permanently based in Gaza right now. That may fit a very narrow definition of not being "occupied" for the purposes of Israeli apologists, but it in no way fools those who are concerned for the plight of the Palestinians.
Despite attempts to pervert the discourse on Occupation, the Palestinians do not have control of their land and sea borders, nor of their airspace. Israel comes and goes across theses borders at will, and when it does it is to kill and maim, as events over the last week have so clearly demonstrated. In fact Israel has almost total control of what comes in and what comes out, and this deliberate starvation of the Palestinians is what the British-based NGOs refer to. The humanitarian crisis is initiated and maintained by Israel in contradiction to all of its treaty obligations.
Gaza is no different to the ghettoes the Nazis corralled the Jews into in WW2, but the end result will not be the same. |
