Mr Arens talks about this or that military tactic being more or less effective. What he fails to realise is that all military action will be ineffective. Or rather, ineffective in bringing Hamas and the Palestinian population to heel. 60-odd years of military tactics should have told him - and others - this. And when he talks about moral standards, does he mean the morals that allow for political assassination, economic strangulation, house demolitions, arbitary arrest, checkpoints and the daily humilations, prejudice and discrimination that is aimed at the Palestinian population ona daily basis? But - on a more cheerful note - he`s right on one count: the people of Israel will have to grin and bear it.
