The crowd was upbeat, happy and enthusiastic. When the initial sign-was finally conducted most left. About 100 people opted for Hillary, and 66 or 67 voted for Obama. When the numbers were run to divide the precinct`s 26 deligates, there was the question of what to do with the delegate which would have had to be divided between Hillary and Obama. I suggested we cut someone in half across the middle so one could be the "rump" candidate, but more serious minds suggested giving to Hillary. The resolution passed unanimously.
The two caucuses split up, elected their chairs and secretaries, and elected their delegates.
The whole thing was quite cordial, and no one seemed to go away mad.
Obama came from behind with a legion of young and first time voters, and almost took the election, Clinton held enough of her `old guard` together and secured a `victory.`
Two very strong candidates and a VERY motivated public.
Quite a political year. Not 1968, but the most outstanding since then. |
