well that might be all very well and good but is it healthy? i mean, what if there comes a presidency that decides to take a risk and pursue an alternate political course with israel that is more based on a hard cost-benefit analysis of the USA`s interests in the region? the isreali government would be howling about it. threats for the suspension of aid and so on.
what about questions like: is your attachment stronger to america or israel?
would you support american policies over isreali policies?
in a way this comes down to a very important issue. anti-semites most powerful argument has always been that jewish citizens loyalties lay elsewhere and the manner in which the american jewry has countered that charge is by the fact so many have entered public life. lets not try and give ammo back to the anti-semites and let teh jews in american public life fall under teh suspicion of being isreali agents |
