The United States lost in Vietnam in large measure by using excessive force, B-52 against rice farmers, etc.
It seems to me that artillery usage against paramilitary rocket launching sites, on the face of it is not excessive force.
But this is not strictly a question of force. The interdiction of the missiles should have a high priority, along with intelligence development of real and possible launch sites.
Again, this is not exclusively military/intelligence. Since these are religious wars, the ineffective use of religion on the Israeli side, there, and the ineffective use of religion on the US side in Iraq and Afghanistan are significant contributing factors to the stalemates in all of these places. Until US and Israeli leaders give the religious dimension the weight it deserves, the stalemate is likely to continue.
At the center of this is: FREEDOM OF RELIGION FOR ALL IN ALL PLACES. NO TOLERANCE FOR TERROR OR TORTURE.
