As von Foerster once wrote, the ethical imperative is to increase the number of choices.
Yet Israel, again and again, convinces itself and its citizens that it has no choice but to invade, shoot, retaliate, shell, bomb.
There are choices, and just as these were ignored last year in Lebanon, so too they are being ignored now.
We now see the absurd situation of "sane" people discussing whether to shell civilians or not - while having neglected diplomacy, the UN, the international community and the media. We are only able to come up with the same pathetic answers and excuses time and time again - that "we have no other choice."
Yes we do -and it behoves us to examine those other choices. Otherwise Winograd II will show us in a few months what we should have been considering now.
Whenever there is a monolithic wall of consensus in Israel that we have no choice - you can be sure that we are going down the wrong route!!!
