Segev, like other "historical revisionists", exhibits an eagerness to unearth the darkest truths about Israel`s past. He is convinced that past chroniclers of Zionist history did everything in their power - including lying - to whitewash the most sordid deeds committed by the Zionist leadership. He is generally considered to be a "new historian", a loosely-defined group of Israeli historians who have begun a reexamination of the history of Israel and Zionism. What it really amounts to is a whitewashing of Arab atrocities and a blaming the Israeli victim of that Arab aggression.
Segev`s parents fled Nazi Germany in 1935 and settled in Palestine. His father was killed in the 1948 Arab-Israeli war of Independence... which the ARABS started! In other words, the ARABS killed his Papa!
