| Alon Liel spent so much time in the USA that he operates more like an American than the Israeli he is. Why should he be in such a rush to go contrary to the position of the Bush administration when it is still the official governing authority? Of course Assad is looking to reduce the pressure on him any way he can! Liel would never have openly advocated against an African National congress foreign policy when he was Israel`s ambassador to South Africa! Syria and the Arab world will make peace with Israel when they are ready to do so and only they know when that is. Having individuals and groups running after them to make peace actually isn`t very helpful although it does make the activists feel very self important morally. If Israel could show signs of beginning to end its own war of values that would do far more to bring the Arabs to the table of negotiation. Peace actually starts in the home and at home. |
