| The thing is, most of the Iranians, even those who are religious are pragmatists and do want peace. In 1999 and in 2003 I and a group of other Dutch doctors from Holland visited the country for a medical fair. Really friendly and bright people, not hostile, not even after I told them my sister is an Israeli and I was Jewish. I have traveled to other countries in the Middle East and even in the so-called moderate, liberal ones I felt this kind of hostility. I think that in the long run, this country could be Israel`s closest ally. Ahmadinejad is a puppet and next year, he will be voted out, but the people will stay and we mustn?t alienate them. For those that want to mock me, go ahead, but like Thomas Friedman I have something most others do not have: first hand experience in the country of Persians. |
