Yes, Egypt is an Arab country, but it also has a vested interested in maintaining the peace with Israel. Moreover, it is deathly afraid of the Hamas linking up with the Egyptian Muslim Brother hood and spreading unrest and violence in Egypt.
Therefore, Egypt wants to be, and must, be a partner in any plan for keeping the Hamas state of Gaza under control.
In spite of the political differences of opinion between the two countries, Israel cannot ignore Egypt, the most populous and prominent - if not the richest - Arab state. |
