Just a few months ago, the PKK were enjoying rockstar status in Iraq, overtly assembling the world press and telling them how ready they were to take on the Turkish army, how the mountains were impenetrable, how Turkey were impotent in the winter, how any action would be Turkey`s Lebanon, how the US and EU would protect them - now they are in disarray, resorting to putting out ignored pleas to Turkish Kurd youths to set cars alight.
Turkey is taking those very mountains were those press conferences were held, with kill ratio that shows terrorist groups for the joke that they are when confronted. They are doing this in remote areas with no real civilian infrastructure and no civilian casualities. It is a win win situation for anyone who is not a terrorist sympathiser.
Barzani had a chance to legitimise Iraqi Kurds, and he blew it to support a terror group. Instead of complaining about the situation, he should be thankful he is not himself being punished for harbouring terrorists. |
