Just as Christopher Browning noted in his breathtaking book "Ordinary men", anyone can become a butcher, the thin line between care and evil is present in all of us. Brownings book illustrates how people from a local police battalion with no previous acts of cruelty or even any experience of any severe criminal acts nor criminals, all happily take active part in the Holocaust seemingly without any qualms what so ever. His point was that anyone can perform acts of barbarism under the right (wrong) circumstances. One needs to seriously make an example of this unfortunate brigade. Compensation needs to be meted out to its victims. Because Israel is a modern state where justice should be blind. |
