| "Rebel Catholic traditionalists who champion the old Latin mass have accused Pope Benedict of caving in to "foreign pressures".." I am a "rebel Catholic" traditionalist, who would not think to set foot in a new church Novus Ordo Mass. I don`t necessarily "accuse" the Pope of caving in to pressures from outside. At this point, I`m not sure what motivated him. Reuters,(as one might expect) got it somewhat wrong about SSPX. Four newly consecrated bishops of the Society were excommunicated in 1988. But the highest officials in the Vatican have openly admitted that those faithful in attendance at SSPX Masses can satisfy their Sunday obligations. Card. Castrillon Hoyos, prefect of the congregation for the clergy, has declared in a recent interview that SSPX is not in "schism," as that`s group`s detractors love to charge over and over again. |
