The time to offer generosity, Mr Shavit, is when the recipient shows willingness and eagerness to receive the gift so that gratitude is shown and there may be a feeling of accomplishment and repletion for both parties.
You may make gestures indicating your willingness to give largesse but if they`re not reciprocated withdraw your offer. Unilateral peace offers have been proven to be considered gestures of weakness, vide Gaza!
We are doing fine (if you don`t include Sderot and the action contemplated here won`t affect that unlucky town) but the Syrians need reinforcing and they need to be shown as a centre of strength. They suggested this in their motions re Annapolis. It`s the Arabs who need peace with Israel. Let them make the moves. You drive a better bargain that way and the result is better appreciated. |
