As the 6 day war progresse, Moshe Dayan specifically asked his northern commander if it would be possible to take the Golan Heights.
The response was that, `Assad has not reinforced the Golan, nor has he dug in his troops there to prepare for a fight with Israel.`
The reason that Israel took over the Golan Heights in 1967 was because Syria DID NOT prepare for war with Israel, and did not bring their army south to fight against Israel.
Syria used force to try and reclaim the Golan in 1973.
But to say that it was Syria that used force in 1967, and not acknowledge Isreal`s preemptive role in the conflict on their northern border is to revise history. |
