| The whole assumption that by "making peace with syria", syria will drop hizbollah is rather shallow.Syria supports hizbollah in part to pressure Israel over the golan, but also to act as its proxy in lebanon which sryia has no intentions of giving up.In turn Hizbollah justifies itself in lebanon by claiming to be the true lebanese "resistance" against israel and for the sheba farms.If syria gets back the golan, there goes the sheba farms issue and their goes the `resistance to israel" thing, there goes hizbollah raison d`etre , there goes syrias proxy, there goes their control of lebanon.This equation is no as simple as the author would pretend. |
