First off, UNGAR 181 was not actually rejected; the Arab states rightfully claimed that the General Assembly did not have the legal right to partition Palestine, which they did not. In fact UNGAR 181 only makes recommendations to the UN Security Council, which also had serious doubts that even it had the legal authority to do so, which is why Israel`s founders murdered the UN Envoy sent to the region per UNGAR 181 to prevent his recommendations from being heard, ignored UNGAR 181`s provisions completely and declared statehood unilaterally, as they knew they would lose the legal battle in the end.
Oh, and if you want to argue UN General Assembly Resolutions are binding, then don`t ignore UNGAR 476 which declares Israel`s annexation of Jerusalem null and void as the Arabs did not "reject" that one. |
