I say this not because of religious reasons but purely because of historical ones: Muslims have shown that when they are in control of religious sites they either destroy the sites of foreign religions or deny access to them.
Under Israeli rule both Muslim and Christians have had full rights to their respective religious sites. Had the tables been turned and our Temple was still up you can be sure the Muslims would have destroyed it like they have destroyed the Buddhist status in Afghanistan. You don`t even have to look that far, just look at what they did to our religious sites in Hebron and the Temple Mount.
Jerusalem is not negotiable. Future generations will never forgive us if we allow their historical ties (religious or secular) to the land to be destroyed. |
