A difficulty is that regrettably some rabbinic courts are kangaroo courts. This isn`t much disputed, even within the Orthodox community. It would be nice to think that rabbinic judges hold themselves to an even higher standard than secular judges. Regrettably, this isn`t always the case.
Perhaps only particular vetted rabbinic courts ought to be given enforcement powers from the state, and only in certain tasks, like coercing a get. Such courts, one hopes, would have mechanisms for oversight and appeal. |
