In answer to post #6 who wrote that Pius looked the other way and did nothing, please note that the Catholic church was responsible for saving the lives of 900,000 Jewish people during the holocaust. Pius hide Jewish people himself and ordered religeous houses in Italy to open their doors to shelter the Jews living in Italy while the country was occupied by the Nazis. This was hardly doing nothing. Who else or what other organization saved so many persons?
Ben-Gurion, the Jewish Agency Executive and others were also slanderously accused of doing nothing to save the Dispora Jewish people from the holocaust despite their herioc efforts. Reality was that the Pope, the Catholic church Ben-Gurion and the Yishuv enterprise each lacked an army, tanks and soldiers and had to rely on diplomacy and working behind the scences to save people during the holocaust.
Pyschology tells us that people blame the Pope because they are mad at God for having failed to prevent the holocaust. |
