If the law (the orginal, or a new one) is effective, does it mean that an 87-year-old husband who`s never committed a crime but who is seen striking his 88-year-old wife, or even his best friend, must go to prison?
It`s a question of (someone`s) discretion.
I`m asking whether the problem may not be that existing laws aren`t being enforced because they aren`t being used, starting with prosecutors who don`t bring all the charges they could, and ending with judges.
A better way of showing: If the member of the Knesset who`d pass this new law (or even a judge) lives next-door to someone he discovers is molesting a child, the Knesset member or judge would not take the time to lobby for a new law, but would immediately notify other citizens like himself (in this case, the police). How and why are things different, to our Knesset member, when it comes to justice for the elderly? |
