by the simple fact that israel`s policies in general contribute to the same sentiments the author claims will arise from this assassination...IF indeed israel is responsible for it. bottom line is that, even if it is responsible, this incident doen`t really change or increase the discontent at large that exists for israel. a change in it`s policies towards the palestinians, and the creation of a palestinian state would do FAR more to defuse the animosity towards jews worldwide, than would negating an assissination attempt on an hezbollah big-wig.
were the cited attacks on diaspora jews incited by any particular incident; or were they unprovoked? and while it`s true that hezbollah will seek revenge for an attack like this...it can only do so within the sphere of it`s immediate influence; which diminishes with distance. yet on any given day, and anywhere in the world, the potential for violence against jews exists based on the issue of the palestinians alone.
maybe setting THAT situation right should be the foremost concern for the diaspora, before they worry about specific incidents. newmeric@y... |
