It is naive to think that the AKP in power in Turkey is sincerely interested in promoting democracy. Its leaders love and cherish democracy for it is a useful tool they can use to further their plan, which is to make Turkey more Islamic.Democracy is a magic word. The AKP leaders have understood how to exploit this word. The more you use it the more the gullible West and the gullible liberals/intellectuals love and support you. It doesn`t matter whether the speaker of the word has truly, sincerely, intellectually embraced its meaning. In Turkey democracy doesn`t exist in political parties. The leaders of the political parties have full control over the selection of members of parliament and over the running of party politics. In other words, parliamentarians are nothing more than the employees of the big chief.
