Tom Lantos was a towering figure. He has dedicated his life to serve his country of choice - the US - and to strive for human rights.
The fact that he was a Holocaust survivor, saved by Raoul Wallenberg, had certainly marked his path.
In all his political life, he carried with pride the legacy of his savior and felt indebted to him.
A decade ago, Lantos co-founded the International Raoul Wallenberg Foundation with the Argentinean Baruj Tenembaum (a proud Jew who dedicated his life to foster interconfessional and multicultural dialogue).
Through this spiritual venture, Lantos has contributed enormously to the preservation and spreading of Raoul Wallenberg`s heroic feats.
Tom Lantos` passing leaves a big void. We, his friends at the Foundation, feel like orphans. His absence is a huge loss but we pledge to carry on with his sacred legacy.
May he rest in peace.
