| Because it was reported and heavily criticized in the US Press, German authorities had to acknowledge that war disability pensions are still being paid to members of the Waffen-SS units and even to war criminals. Believe it or not, the German government provides generous monthly pensions to Nazi war veterans, whose injuries or even mild and chronic ailments qualify them for war victims pensions. Waffen-SS veterans in the Baltic States and elsewhere in Eastern Europe are now receiving such pensions from Germany too, while their victims are not. Surely the victims, now old and in poor health, deserve to finish their lives in dignity. |
