If you read the Christian stories of the arrest, trial, punishment, and crucifixion of Jesus, you perhaps can understand why they behave in this way. If you want an example closer to home, consider the Purim festivities.
Analyze the crucifixion and Esther stories side-by-side, and you see that at least in Purim the bad guys died.
And no, a Jew did not scourge Jesus, a Jew did not nail Jesus up on the cross. But if you read the Gospel stories starting at the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead, you`ll see why Christians act as they do. (The distinction that has to be kept in mind is that it was not "all Jews" who did the things in the Gospels, but the Sanhedrin and Zealots, who saw Jesus as a threat to established Judaism, especially after he raised Lazarus from the dead -- supposedly -- and large numbers of people started to follow him.)
This is the first time I heard of these events in Lithuania, but Purim festivities immediately came to my mind. |
