Given the situation that the Ayatollahs are in power and the Iranians can make their own power plant fuel from indigenous uranium resources for a couple of generations, at least, the US sees NO NEED WHATSOEVER for Iran to develop nuclear energy. Given the more traditional self-interested, historical situation where the US` puppet Shah Reza was in power, and the US was supplyin the nuclear technology, that will need to be maintained by US interests and corporations, of course, back then the the US had NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER with the Iranians pursuing nuclear power, which was obviously needed. That`s the problem with nuclear power. It is a long-term threat to the stability of the world, regardless of the political SITUATION at the time it is undertaken. It cannot be made into other than a dual-use technology. If it weren`t for that pesky radioactive waste management problem and the potential for accidents and weapons proliferation, we`d all be better off if every country had a few. |
