I grew up in South Africa, where we started learning both English and Hebrew in the 1st grade (I went to a private, Jewish school). I assure you my command of my 1st language, English, is just fine.
I think Israelis having a greater command in English is an extremely positive thing. On the scale between barely being able to speak English, and being bilingual, I think the closer to the latter the better.
I eagerly await the day when a heart wrenching story in perfect English by Palestinians is responded to by something other than "Israel.. uhh... protect... terrorists!" on the news. [and I`m making no claims about the validity or lack of validity of Palestinian claims, merely emphasizing the point]. |
