That`s what the article says. It also has a prime minister and a foreign minister.
The conclusion to be drawn from this is that, for all intents and purposes, Gaza is a de facto state.
Gaza also has well-defined and internationally-recognized borders, a government in full control of its subjects, armed forces that go by various names but all subservient to the government, an Arabic dialect of its own, somewhat different from that of the West Bank.
It is time Israel realized this and recognized Gaza as a de jure state. This will enable Israel to take defensive measures against this hostile state which are not possible to take against occupied territories, including total closure of all ports of entry, and total cutoff of fuel, electricity, water, food and medical supplies.
The Gazans will be able to supply themselves with whatever they need from Egypt and other Arab countries, providing they can get through the Israeli air and sea blockade. |
