I would like to posit an idea: does Israel, on the whole, really want peace? I mean think about it: with peace, means defined borders; define borders can come only two ways: a compromised settlement with the Palestinians (which because of the Jordan Valley settlements is almost impossible) or forced borders, i.e. walls, which will do nothing to assist peace. Now, on the other hand, let`s look at the benefits of constant fighting: 1. Total suppression and control of the occupied territories. 2. Military aid from the United States. 3. Continual expansion, as only one side can out last the other. 4. The dehumanizing of Palestinians to inflate Israeli ego.
Now, if Israel really wanted peace, it would have taken the 2002 Beirut summit serious with its neighbors, and it would cease new settlements in the West Bank during the Annapolis conference. (Instead, Israel has treated the conference as a countdown until there can be no more settlements, thus prompting rapid settlement) |
