I hate to tell you this but Israel has bet its future on a real loser. While there is always a chance that the US will solve its many internal problems (debt, health care, retirement, etc.) and recover, the magnitude of the problems are so huge and the willingness of Americans to suffer the pain required to fix them is so low it is very unlikely that the US will recover.
So the zillion dollar question for Israel is: "What happens to Israel after the US is too weak (militarily, economically and psychologically) to protect Israel? This isn`t just idle speculation, but a very real probability.
Can Israel afford both economically and resource wise to fight a long term war with the rest of the ME? To bleed Israel economically, all the Arabs have to do is make every day very costly for Israel and eventually Israel will be bankrupt (it already is morally but that is another matter). |
