| During Holocaust Irena Sendler worked for Zegota , a unit within the Polich underground estabilished specifically to help Jews in hiding. As health worker , she had accsessto the Warsaw Ghetto and between 1942 - 1943 successfully smuggled almost 2500 Jewish children to safety and gave them temporary new identities .But Germans become aware of her activities and she was arrested, imprisoned ,tortured and sentenced to death .With Zegota help Irena escaped from prison . |
