| The matches were televised around the world and I watched the Peer/Safina match from New York. The Israeli fans brought shame on Israel in that match. To cheer double faults and to whistle while someone is in the midst of serving is boorish and unacceptable and makes Israelis look uncultured. Tennis fans around the world know proper etiquette, but not these. I was waiting for Peer to step up to the microphone and admonish the crowd, but she wasn`t up to the task. I was also hoping the umpire would do so, but all he did was say "quiet." Fortunately, Peer used the cheering to help her win, but as a fan of Israel, I hated to see such inappropriate behavior. Shame, shame on the crowd. |
