There do seem to be an awful lot of generals in Israel.

Israel has a population slightly greater than the Greater Houston Economic Region, of which about 2,5 million are fit for military service.

The active forces are of course smaller and I suspect I cannot discuss actual numbers if I want this posted.

The men and women of the IDF appeared at the time to be trying hard to do what was asked of them. That what was asked was confused, ill-planned, and ineptly directed is the important point.

The government was more interested in appearing to respond strongly and quickly than in taking the time to plan, prepare and prosecute a successful war.

The General staff appears to have been a bunch of yes-men more interested in their retirement jobs as politicians than in ensuring that the war was intelligently conducted and troops not wasted in folly.

Any solution might well involve less generals.
