| The Jews who fought to create Israel during the War of Independence 60 years ago often fought to save the lives of Hasidim who not only would not raise a finger to help them, but denied the right of Jews to create Israel. The Jews who created Israel humored the Hasidim. They let them have an extraordinary say in religious matters, they exempted them from the draft. They put up with their anachronism with good humor. How things have changed. Now the minority demands that the majority submit to them. They demand their vision of Israel be accepted as the ONLY one. They seek to impose their control upon even the most secular of Israelis. The sound and act very much like Islamic fundamentalist such as the Taliban. Whether the majority of Israelis wish to submit is their problem. But it sure is curious how things have changed in 60 years. |
