| All, This indicates to me that the Hamas breach has really failed. The Egyptians are closing the border and have insisted that the Fayyad government man the Rafah crossing. Hamas is in trouble and the strategy is collapsing. The first step was the breach of the Egyptian border. The second step was an open border in which suicide bombers could enter Israel at will. The third step was a breach of the Israeli border accompanied by suicide bombs at the crossings on the Israeli side. Surprise - Mubarak is not playing this game. 5 suicide bombers were rounded, 12 more were arrested with explosives. The Egyptians are closing the border for their own reasons. The result - massive disappointment by the Gazan people, a resumption of Fatah demonstrations and some Fatah resistance using smuggled Egyptian weapons. Lastly, collapse of the Hamas regime in Gaza and a unity government under Fayyad (not Hamas) that accepts the Saudi Initiative and the lead of Sunni Arab diplomacy. |
