Mark,

I share your opinion. American politics, especially within the Democratic Party, are "tribal": the fault lines are undeniable between racial and ethnic groups. Amongst Democrats, though, religious and gender divisions do not seem to be as profound (although still unmistakably present).

I, for one, am puzzled by many Jews` caution toward Obama`s candidacy. He seems to represent the kind of invigourating and hopeful liberalism of the Kennedys, which at least older Jewish voters recall and favoured.

Although I agree the Senator is not overly-experienced in the ways of Washington, he certainly has a great deal of experience with, and understanding of, "common" people. A black man in American society, such as Obama - even in this late day and age - does not accomplish what Obama has accomplished, without being extremely talented: bias and favouritism do no work to the black man`s advantage here, to say the least.

More American voters should appreciate this.
