| As any "techie" knows, but most others don`t, the internet was designed and developed under US Dept of Defense contract to serve as a maximally redundant communication network to provide adequate level of communications for US military even after a nuclear attack. This was done by having the "message" broken up into tiny "packets" each of which could take a separate path to the destination, and which were small enough that the loss of a moderate percentage of them would still only cause minimal distortion of the message. The idea that breaking one path could take down over half of the capability of the network is bizarre in view of how the internet really ought to work. |
