| Good thoughts, Israel Harel. The soul of Israel is sick. Back in the heyday of Zionism, there was the feeling every one shared one country and no sacrifice was too small to protect Israel from danger. That sort of national ethos that built up Israel has disappeared. Today, its every man for himself and the view that if you put the country`s well-being ahead of your own, you`re a freier. The current Prime Minister is the very embodiment of the concept there is nothing special about Israel and Jews owe no higher obligations towards it. Without a rediscovery of the belief all of Israel is in the same boat together, it will not survive. It is not a pretty picture of what happened to Israel in the past few decades but it is also the truth. The nation`s leaders, after all, are a reflection of the people themselves. |
