Gilbert what you mention are only a few of the peculiarities and inconsistencies of the US electoral system.
To mention a few more is the winner take all or proportional allotment of delegates, non-confidential voting in caucuses (the word is strange enough to bring chills down my spine) in a few other states, this lack of uniformity creates a situation where a candidate does not need to have a majority of votes to become the party nominee.
Money is another big issue since a very wealthy candidate can totally distort and disrupt what is supposed to be a struggle of ideas, and being able to put up lot of paid PR advertising to be in the face of the voter all the time doesn`t allow other more worthy candidates the same kind of exposure, and this influences how certain people are taken in. |
