This is all about Olmert`s remaining in power. And why not? The problem really is what does Israel want for itself? How much is it willing to compromise to get some sort of peace with the Pals (under Abbas). What is your average Israeli hoping for and expecting in reality? So much of Israel`s future depends NOT on it`s leadership (every leader is beholden to the USA President and Congress), but on the Palestinian leadership and street., including Hamas. No agreement w/o Hamas is worth the paper it`s written on. But are we talking about a Hamas controlled W. Bk and E. Jerusalem, or what? If the IDF withdraws..can Abbas control anything? Hamas wants Israel`s destruction, and Fatah says it doesn`t. I believe Hamas. Will Hez support any peace arrangement..and what about Iran? The proposal for early elections..which would make some in Israel happy, is not the answer. Olmert is right on that one. From Peres, to Rabin, to Barak, to Sharon to Olmert..read their lips., nothing but problems. |
