The prime minister is overstating the `role` of the allies in mitigating the magnitude of the extermination process. Auschwitz is a buzz word and a metaphor for the extermination but it should be clear to every body that most of the extermination (approx. 80%) took place by the end of 1943. Between the Einsatsgruppen I-IV and the exrermination camps on the Bug river, that is Chelmno, Sobibor, Treblinka and Belzec, 4 millions went up the chimneys before the world understood the extent of the catastrophe. There was another important factor- Hitler`s extensive use of the rail system for deportation ,cut severely into his military logistic capabilities and it is possible that Jews as well as others)were knowingly if belatedly sacrificed on the altar of the common good- the total defeat of Germany.
But of course truth is sacrificed on the altar of Olmert`s common good- his self preservation. |
