The Israeli government cannot compare itself to the Palestinian Authority. They lack the Hierarchy of jurist and clear and concise definition of international law. What Israel handed out to the soldier is basically a classical show and tell of Israel moral high ground. This soldier got away with crimes that deserve severe punishment. It is a mediocre type of military justice. As former commander over seeing a military intelligence unit in the United States Army, I have sent men with lesser degree of crime to the Brigantine. An American soldier under my command spent 60 days in jail, an article 15, and deduction in rank and barred from reenlistment for just punishing an Iraqi civilian. At one time I held high esteem for the Israel military, but after being stationed in Israel for a short period, I was extremely disappointed. Israeli soldiers at time would walk up to me and offered to sell their own weapons and even their uniform. Israel needs to go back to its root of survival rather them becoming the aggressor and the bad man in the Middle East. Improvise your Uniform Code Of Military Justice, UCMJ. Treat the Palestinian people humanely as possible. Unfortunately we do have our own bad apple, but we are trying our best to clean house considering the quagmire we are in. |
