I remember when the first intifada started it was on both sides of the border, Israel and Egypt. Egypt shot the troublemakers and the intifada halted. Israel behaved in a western way, arresting the leaders and letting the rest go and the intifada spread and led to the second one and to the current situation.
I have trouble reconciling the two Egypts: the decisive one in 2000 and the one unable to control the mob now. I have the strong and unpleasant feeling that the current comparative gentleness can`t last.
Let`s hope that it`s all resolved in a peaceful manner. |
