| The reason for the longstanding "stable" peace between Israel and Egypt is that American taxpayers pay 2 billion dollars to Egypt every year on the condition that they keep peace with Israel and keep the security of the borders. Historically, Israel has been quick to whine to America to cut Egypts allowance when, in Israels eyes, Egypt is not performing as desired. Egypt has no love or affection for Israel and they welcomed the opportunity that the Israeli seige upon Gaza gave them to poke a stick in Israels eye by allowing the border to be broached. Egypt is regaining control of the border as slowly as possible while avoiding having their allowance cut. Egypt, along with the other Arab nations, knows that the war with Israel is not over. It is just a question of the timing to go from smouldering resentment to open hostilities. |
